SCHOOL PROGRAMS
*All School Programs and Residencies are based on the NC Standard Course of Study*
These tried and true residencies come straight from teacher curriculum (I was a
certified Spanish teacher). But don’t tell your students – they’ll never guess! All are
stretch-able
and shrink-able to fit your school’s teaching, time, and budgetary needs.
Follow the Drinking Gourd: Escape from Slavery grades K-6
After listening to an original story based on the true lives of runaway slaves, children
use
emotion and pantomime to retrace the path of one brave little girl. In an optional addition
we reflect on the experience in a writing/sharing circle.
Animal Sound-Off - bilingual Spanish/ English grades K-3
Students explore animal sounds with the help of La Cucarachita Martina, a Latin
American traditional folktale. Children make sounds and play roles from the story.
You’re Different, Just Like The Rest of Us! -
bilingual Spanish/ English
grades K-4
Students reenact the Zapotec legend "La mujer que brillaba aun más que el sol", but only
after they learn some Spanish words and what respect for others is!
Lina Gallina, a Hen with Heart - bilingual Spanish/ English grades K-4
In this bilingual unit on drama and animal needs (Science), our protagonist Lina Gallina
learns to honor her own needs. Students create a list of animal needs, experience the
original story, and put on a play with their own story ending.
Juan Bobo Goes to Work - bilingual Spanish/ English grades 2-4
In this bilingual unit, we go to Puerto Rico with Juan Bobo as he performs different
services and earns many goods and creates a lot of writing and laughter too!
